Vision and tradition

Visión y Tradición (Vision and Tradition) is the exhibition that opened Design Week México 2022, created in collaboration with the National Museum of Anthropology and Territorio Creativo. The project featured a program of four residencies in which 19 designers and artisans crafted pieces combining traditional artisan knowledge with innovative contemporary design. As with every year, a guest country and a guest city were invited to participate in the event; in 2022, the invited guests were Brazil and Metepec, Toluca.

Amid flashes, lights, cigarettes, and eccentric cocktails, Victoire celebrates the end of the launch of her best friend Saint Laurent’s new collection. It is 1970; men and women are wearing tailored suits in colorful tweeds with pointed lapels, wide-leg trousers, and silk chiffon as ties. The guests celebrate among perforated leather cushions, floor-level sofas, and rugs—a collection of objects Victoire would gather during world travels alongside Yves, especially to Mexico and Morocco. The tea being served begins to take effect on the guests. Strange things are about to happen.
The living room transforms: a metal curtain lowers from the ceiling, enveloping the space, while shooting stars pause and bring the chandelier to life. The rugs begin to move, coming alive and rising above the floor. The lamps turn into robots. Victoire approaches the window and realizes they have traveled through time, and are now somewhere in the future.
