Lucía Prudencio and Daniel Berman maintain an ecosystem of printmaking and painting in their studio in La Orduña, Xalapa. Surrounded by the cloud forest and family life, both work through nearly opposing visual languages and themes, yet share a single creative space and collective imaginary. This selection at Ángulo Cero showcases their most recent body of work.
Large-scale woodcut prints and paintings embody the vastness of the cloud forest inhabited by Lucía Prudencio. Methodical in her approach—much like a biologist—Lucía documents and classifies the flora of Xalapa. Her work functions as both a botanical catalogue and a testament to its gradual destruction: an act of drawing intended to render nature immortal against the threat of extinction.
Conversely, Daniel Berman deconstructs traditional canons of printmaking, painting, and the human form. Through a playful and intelligent layering of planes, media, and textures—combining graphite, pastel, acrylic, and crayon over meticulously printed woodcuts—Berman fragments the body into subtle gestures and lines. His practice explores the possibilities of materials, allowing the artwork itself to dictate the process.
